Georgia Adoption Specialists seeks to support all individuals and couples wishing to adopt a child. There are, therefore, no marital, race or religious requirements for prospective adoptive families seeking adoption home study services from the agency.
The main purpose of the home study process is to ensure adoptive parents can provide a safe, stable and loving home to a child, as well as to prepare and educate them about the adoption process and their future adopted child. Georgia Adoption Specialists social workers recognize that no one is perfect and do their best to create an accepting and understanding atmosphere throughout the home study process. This is an educational process and is designed to assist families in fulfilling their dream of adopting a child, while also satisfying all the Georgia home study requirements.
The home study will include three visits, one of which will be in your home. The home study allows you and a social worker to discuss your decision to adopt and your readiness to parent a child. The home study addresses your family life as a child, your marriage, if applicable, religion, health, employment, childcare plan, reasons for your decision to adopt and philosophy on child rearing. In addition, there are many documents you will need to gather such as medical reports, criminal records checks, and letters of reference. A more comprehensive explanation of the home study process and a list of the required documents will be provided to you when you contact the agency. After the initial contact, we will email you an application, fee agreement and orientation materials. After receiving these items, the home study checklist and forms you will need will be emailed to you within 24 hours. The home study will generally take between 4-6 weeks to complete depending on how quickly you provide the required documents to us. It can be completed more quickly if you require the process to be expedited. Upon completion of the home study, you will be notified in writing that the home study process is complete and whether you were approved as prospective adoptive parents.
The home study process can be overwhelming due to the amount of paperwork required by Georgia regulations, but your social worker will be there to offer support, guidance and expertise throughout the entire home study and adoption process.
